Synthetic Apiary 1, funded by Mori Construction behind the Tokyo Olympics. The Synthetic Apiary Project, conducted in collaboration with the MIT Media Lab, explored the possibility of a controlled space in which seasonal honey bees could thrive year-round. Light, humidity, and temperature were engineered to simulate a perpetual spring environment. The creation of an entirely synthetic environment would enable controlled, large-scale investigations of the hives.
