In collaboration with the Space Exploration Initiative at the MIT Media Lab and Blue Origins, we successfully sent two queen bees and their workers into space. The project marked the Media Lab’s first rocket launch and just the third time bees have ever been sent into space! The launch enabled us to explore how honey bee fertility and behavior respond to extreme environments; this contributes to our understanding of (and preparation for) important future challenges – from climate change to off-planet pollination.

Chief Scientific Officer Noah Wilson-Rich, PhD., began The Best Bees Company as a way to continue his research in honeybee immunology. His passion for bee health, research, and data-based solutions drove The Best Bees Company forward from his apartment in Boston to 12 cities nationwide, becoming the largest beekeeping service in the US. He is an urban ecologist, published author, and a three-time TEDx speaker on a mission to expand the bee population and improve pollinator health. His scientific approach makes an out-sized impact on the larger mission to save the bees and helps clients understand the quantifiable impact they have on the environment by opening their rooftops to pollinators. Noah has collaborated with NASA, National Geographic, MIT, Harvard University, Stanford University, and more in research projects relating to pollinator health.
