Part-Time Shop Hand: San Francisco Bay, CA

The Best Bees Company is seeking a part-time shop hand in the San Francisco Bay!

We are a full-service beekeeping operation headquartered in Boston. We deliver, install, and manage beehives for residences and businesses in 22 cities nationwide, including the San Francisco Bay. The data we collect via our hive visits supports honey bee health research at our sister non-profit The Urban Beekeeping Laboratory and Bee Sanctuary.

Our shop staff are managed from our Denver office. We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your schedule. Ideally, candidates will be available for at least 2 shifts per week during the active season, though more frequent scheduling may be available. We offer a competitive hourly rate and are seeking a shop hand to start ASAP.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications
  • Enthusiasm for pollinators and honeybees, comfortable working around honeybees 
  • Consistent weekday availability
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Excellent organizational skills 
  • Keen attention to detail 
  • Able to communicate clearly, consistently, and promptly through phone and Google applications (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Drive, etc)
  • Comfortable working independently or within a small team with support from remote managers
  • Ability to safely lift up to 40 lbs
Responsibilities will include
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with Best Bees clientele and teammates 
  • Sort incoming field equipment as it comes back into the shop
  • Assist with shipping and receiving
  • Complete small-batch client harvesting tasks including uncapping, extracting, filtering, jarring, and labeling honey
  • Record detailed and accurate harvesting records through our tracking system 
  • Support inventory of shop supplies 
  • Prepare sugar water feed
  • Maintain a clean working environment, including regular cleaning and minor maintenance of Best Bees harvesting equipment, tools, and workspace
  • Construct hive boxes and frames 
  • Opportunity to assist Beekeepers with beehive inspections

  • Must not be allergic to bee stings
